Charter Options for Birthday Groups

We fish two distinct areas out of Islamorada, each with a different feel and target species.

Backcountry and inshore trips run on Little Guru, our 24' Shallow Sport. Calm, shallow water. Florida Bay flats, mangrove shorelines, and protected channels. Tarpon, redfish, snook, and seatrout. Good for birthdays with a mixed group — younger guests, non-fishers, or anyone who wants a relaxed day on the water without long offshore runs. Up to 5 guests. Starts at $600 for a half day.

Offshore trips run on Big Guru, our 39' Contender. Open Atlantic water, blue-water species, longer runs. Mahi-mahi, wahoo, tuna, and sailfish are the targets depending on the season. For birthday groups that want the bigger offshore experience, this is it. Up to 6 guests. Starting at $900 for a half day or $1,750 for a full day.

Full charter details and booking are on our Islamorada fishing charters page.

Inshore vs. Offshore for a Birthday Group

The inshore backcountry trip on Little Guru is a great fit for birthday groups with a wide age range or guests who prefer a relaxed day on the water. Captain Travis runs a hands-on trip with consistent action and an easy pace — everyone gets time on the rod, and the scenery through the flats and mangrove channels makes it a memorable outing even between bites. It's the kind of low-pressure, high-fun day that works for the whole group, regardless of fishing experience.

For birthday groups that want more adrenaline, the offshore trip on Big Guru delivers. Mahi-mahi are the top target — they school up, bite aggressively, and put up a fight that's exciting for everyone on the boat, first-timer or seasoned angler. It's the kind of action that turns a birthday trip into a story worth telling, with open Atlantic water and the chance at sailfish and tuna adding to the excitement. Trips run out of Three Waters Marina at Mile Marker 84.

FAQs

What's the right trip length for a birthday group?

For younger kids (under 10), a half-day inshore trip is usually the right call — enough action without overextending. For teen and adult birthday groups wanting the full offshore experience, a full-day charter (8 hours) gives the captain the range to work multiple areas and target a wider range of species.

How many guests can join?

Little Guru (inshore) fits up to 5 guests. Big Guru (offshore) fits up to 6. If your birthday group is larger, contact us — we can sometimes arrange multiple boats running together for larger parties.

Do guests need fishing experience?

No. Our captains work with all experience levels and explain everything before and during the trip. For birthday groups with a mix of experienced and first-time anglers, they adjust the level of instruction and involvement accordingly.

Is this a good trip for non-fishers who are just coming along for the birthday?

Yes. Even guests who don't fish enjoy a day on the water in Islamorada — the scenery, wildlife, and experience of being offshore or on the flats is engaging regardless of how much time you spend with a rod in hand. It's a full day out, not just a fishing lesson.

What's your cancellation policy?

Full refund with 7 or more days' notice, minus a 4% booking fee. 50% refund with 48 hours to 7 days' notice. No refund within 48 hours. Weather cancellations are fully refunded or rescheduled at your preference.
